FAQs

How does Bluetooth work?

Bluetooth is a transmission medium within a set frequency band that sends data from one device - such as a mobile phone, a PDA, a Computer, a digital Camera, and many more - to another Bluetooth-enabled device, over short distances, in a wireless format.

What does it cost to send or receive a message?

Bluetooth is FREE to use and therefore once you have the beamzone® system up and running, any number of transmissions are free - no matter whether you connect with a single user, or 1 million people!

How many people can I contact at once?

Each beamzone® system can deal with 21 handsets simultaneously.

Where can I use this?

The beamzone® technology can be used either indoors or outdoors, with equal success. The technology has a vast number of business and consumer applications. Areas such as exhibition venues, sports stadia, public areas and shopping centres are ideal; in fact, anywhere where there is significant footfall. Additionally there are some organisations who use Bluetooth to distribute information to employees and visitors. Bluetooth can also operate on moving vehicles for those on board, or for those that it passes.

How far will the signal reach?

The beamzone® system searches a radius of up to 100 meters for mobile devices equipped with Bluetooth, although the maximum range of a Bluetooth equipped mobile phone is actually limited by the handset manufacturers, to 30 meters. This is a constraint of the chip-set in mobile phones.

If the Bluetooth function is activated and switched on - the first level of user permission - the system alerts the user that content is being offered at no cost, and asks the user for permission to send it.

If access is granted to the mobile device - the second level of user permission - the download proceeds at very high speeds: up to 723kbit/s.

What can we send to, and receive from, users?

beamzone® can send all sorts of audio-visual content to people via Bluetooth - such as images, text, videos, sound, games - including applications and interactive systems that enable you to retrieve data and information from people using the beamzone® service.

We offer bespoke, tailored solutions to our clients, including items such as videos, images, text and sound; but these are only part of the story. You can enable users to play games sent from beamzone®, or deliver powerful applications that allow users to shop, obtain time sensitive information and even improve access, security and emergency services via their phone.

Is there any invasion of privacy?

No. We have, as standard, set the Bluetooth solution to always ask if a user wishes to participate - unlike the SMS messages you sometimes receive on your phone, the SPAM in your email or the billboards you pass every day. We are fully aware of, and operate in accordance with, Data Protection legislation and feel it is our duty to make sure this technology is used in a positive, responsible fashion.
